Adventist History Seminars by Stanley and Ruth Ann Cottrell

Stanley W. Cottrell is a  native of Wisconsin and a 4th generation Seventh-day Adventist.  He graduated from Wisconsin Academy in 1958 and from Andrews University in 1964 with a B.A. in Religion. Stanley met his wife at Andrews.  Ruth Ann (Baldwin) grew up in Onaway, Michigan and graduated from Adelphian Academy in Holly, MI in 1957.  She graduated from Andrews in 1961 (B.Mus.Ed.) and again in 1993 with a Masters degree in teaching. Stanley and Ruth Ann were married in August 1961, and have four married children and four grandchildren.

For 35 years Stanley was a pastor/evangelist in Wisconsin, Illinois, Texas, Maryland and Massachusetts and Ruth Ann taught music and elementary school.  The Cottrell's have been living in Battle Creek, MI, since January 2000, where Stanley was Director of Historic Adventist Village until his retirement in August, 2007, after 44 years of ministry. Stanley is now a part-time pastor for the Michigan Conference of SDA filling in for districts without a pastor and still carries "Emeritus Ministerial Credentials" as an ordained minister, issued by the General Conference of Seventh-day Adventists.

Stanley has sung in many musical groups, performed as soloist, and led the music for large and small congregations throughout North America.  He enjoys telling the stories of early Advent Hymns and leading congregations in singing while Ruth Ann plays an old fashioned pump organ.

A devoted student of the history of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, Stanley has been presenting Adventist History Seminars in churches, schools and public meetings across North America as a part of his ministry.  The Cottrell's also portray Joseph and Prudence Bates, pioneer Seventh-day Adventists from Fairhaven, MA.  Bates was one of the first Adventists to visit Battle Creek in the summer of 1852.
